I'd need a bucket!! I'll be not happy if I have to do a sample in mousse pot/pee pot or anything "small" when I go in..... Op was booked for yesterday - canceled because I was given one week notice, waiting for new date. I got occupational lady measuring up for what things I need tomorrow - CRANE!!! Jane Xxx

Oh dear Jane! I've got a ceiling track hoist here now. It's a thing of beauty! Tbh they are pretty discrete nowadays Here's mine HoistI've been thinking about doing some voile cover on it So it's like a Bedouin tent Lol I've rung up about my op too. They are so behind as the hospital is on black alert with so many wards still closed because of d and v. I just want it done I've had some good news today. I'll post on that elsewhere. a hoist with a drape, fairy lights and a disco ball Jenni!! Got letter today with date: 21 sleeps till op. Had occupational therapy lady today, I'm having a step for shower, step in and out of house, foam sofa pillow, and a grabber (have one already from lidels) she said I need one for downstairs. I turned down a commode for downstairs - imagine the excitment that would give my doggies!! My larger cavalier (boy) would lift his leg and shower the commode legs I feel okay, chilled and calm at the moment. Jane Xxx

Hi Jane
I'm just catching up with posts as well. I had my replacement knee three years ago; it was a breeze. My biggest problem was homesickness (I get homesick if I go to London for a day's shopping) and I was desperate to get home as soon as I came round from the op! You must have a brilliant hospital if you had the OT lady round. All I got was a visit from the OT in hospital who gave me a stool for the bathroom (it wouldn't fit in front of the sink, we have a very small bathroom, so the one item they gave me was useless) so you're obviously going to be looked after well. Good luck!

I hope you experience a different type of pain once the operation has been done. The awful pain you've put up with will have disappeared and you will have a "normal" pain after surgery which will very quickly decrease. I would say that doing the physio is the most important thing you can do to help yourself. In months to come it will stand you in good stead and worth practising every so often. It may take 6 to 8 weeks to walk without aids. Do hope all goes well for you, Anne

Brilliant Janey Jane! Six more sleeps eh? You'll be a new woman in a couple of weeks. Listen I'm going to let you know something I was scared when I had the op on the left knee as I was worried about the pain control and them not letting me have enough etc. but the sliding scale prn thingy was the bees knees. I wasn't even sick (the anaesthetics are so good these days) and I was under a GA for my op The tricky bit was the BED PAN Go for any BIG JOBS the day before Lol Then you can have a big job on the commode/ loo in a couple of days Jenni xx how to be a velvet bulldoser

Hello Jane....5 more sleeps to go!!!! Like Jenni said........You'll be a new woman in a couple of weeks.....and that's from someone who knows about it! Had to laugh at Jenni's advice about the Big Jobs...Oh dear....ladies just don't do bed pans. I think if I had to go in one, well I wouldn't....they would eventually have to call out Dyno Rod I think I would ask for two enemas the morning of the op whilst I was still mobile!!!! Wishing you a speedy recovery. Love Paula x

Only a few more days Jane- I'm sure the nerves are building and according to Paula's post you need to start programming your phone for dyno rod on speed dial I don't know about the flannel set when you've got a fetching NHS slit up the back cotton special The thing that makes me laugh on those is they write NHS PROPERTY on them! My mistake possibly, but you'd have flipping desperate to try and nick one of their boiled up beauties... How are you feeling Jane? Xx how to be a velvet bulldoser

. Hello everyone. I have been quite quiet the past few days, in the zone!! Okay I will explain how I really feel - lack of sleep because of nerves/unknown and knee pain which has gone up to my hip and back. Glad to be on leave allowing me time, the tummy has been having butterflies - probably the unknown I have set myself up to do challenges over the past week to prove to myself I can push and motivate to the next level: been dog walking over half an hour everyday. Been walking and mobile more with my stick or without my stick if I have the dogs with me! Haven't been eating all meals the past few days.....I'm fine, just we all have ways of dealing with things I guess. I have spoke to my hubby about things, typical man really - he says needs doing.....the conversation ends my daughter has been very clingy which is to be expected - so she asked the teacher if I can go into school later to hear her class mates read to me! so I have to rush around and get some washing done and strip her bed, do towels, dogs beds.....the list goes on Saw my friend yesterday, she is recovering from an operation - when she went in to another hospital the other week a lady in the next bed had died after a nite of her screaming.....my friend said don't forget your ipod!! Good luck for the op , I understand your nerves as I was terrified when I had mine done . I remember being so relieved when I came out and mum was waiting for me , I'm taking notes on how your dealing with nerves prior to the op as I know my right knee will be getting done soon , see the surgeon on the 4 th of March. Best wishes Sophie x
